On New Years Eve, a lot of people are quick to talk about their resolutions and how they plan to change their lives in the new year. While it’s great to take steps to improve your health and outlook, and to set goals for the year to come, I think it’s equally important to celebrate the things you did well over the last year. I’ll admit it, this is easier to do if you were nominated for a Nobel Prize this year or if you made some kind of a medical breakthrough. Still, I think we should commend ourselves for the small victories, and the things we thought we did really well, even if no one else was there to recognize them. This is a time for us to recognize the life choices that we approve of. These are some of the things that I did in 2013 that I’m going to celebrate.

I managed to get a job at Urban Outfitters, even if I was only there for a few months.

After my first shift, I bought the gnome sweater seen above.

I learned how to take photos with a film camera. You can even tell what a few of them were meant to be pictures of!

I mastered the art of making grilled cheese.

I went on an alternative spring break trip, and taught English in Nicaragua, even though I was really nervous about teaching children.

I wore star spangled leggings to my final American Literature exam.

I made it through a week of NXNE.

I made it through a night drinking with Kyle from Newfoundland.

rode a scooter in a fur coat while listening to “Thrift Shop.”

One night, I decided that I didn’t want to go to the gym, and instead I went to get late night sushi.

I accidentally went on a 10K run, and I really enjoyed it.

I looked back at my old tweets, and I couldn’t stop laughing. I took that as a sign that I’m living my life well.

I finished my second Beer Tour of the World.

I sat in bed on a Saturday morning eating lasagna and watching Beyoncé videos.

I’ve surrounded myself with people I love who get my humour and understand my love of basketball, even if they don’t love it themselves.

There have been ups and downs over the past year, but at the end of the day I approve of my life choices, and I hope you approve of yours.

Happy New Year!
