For today’s post, I’ve created outfits inspired by each of the four main characters from HBO’s show Girls.

When I think of Jessa, I think of freedom. Her style is bohemian, with billowy tops, exotic jewellery and messy updos. I don’t know where she is right now, but I’m sure she’s off somewhere just living as she pleases.

Unlike Jessa, Hannah is characterized by panicked disorder, especially towards the end of the second season. She is best known for her quirky, sometimes awkward outfits.

When I wore this outfit to meet up with Kelly one day, I said, “This feels like a Hannah Horvath outfit.” She agreed, and I’m still not sure how I feel about that.

The definitive Hannah outfit — mesh tank top from her coke night aside — is her ill fitting cream coloured romper. I thought it necessary that I pull out an ill fitting cream coloured romper of my own! Don’t question why I own it. Just go with it.

ImageMarnie’s style is polished and profession. Her hair is perfect, her shoes are shiny. She makes Ann Taylor suits look beautiful, so I pulled out some Ann Taylor of my own.

Surprisingly, I felt more comfortable in the wedgy inducing romper than this outfit. It felt so forced, like all the polish was nothing but a facade. The moments when I like Marnie the most are when she is not polished, when she admits that she’s not perfect, and that it’s exhausting to be in her own head.

Few characters have outfits stranger than Shoshanna. I’ve still shocked by the hair flower she wore one episode. With her unexpected lines like, “I’m so happy to see you I could murder you,” she is her own force to be reckoned with.

Until next time, I leave you with my favourite quote from Marnie, the quote that inspired the name of this blog.

“I’m on a journey. It’s my journey, and I’m okay.”
