When I run into friends and classmates on campus, more often than not they remark upon how frequently they see me. These friends and classmates tend to encounter me in a range of places, prompting them to say they see me everywhere. Some of these friends are completely justified in saying that we see each other all the time. I see my friend’s, friend’s ex-boyfriend on an almost daily basis, and we rarely encounter each other in the same place twice. Others, I think, say that they see me everywhere simply to say something, because we run into each other too frequently for the casual conversation common to acquaintances. It makes sense that so many people see me in so many places because I spend most of my time on campus, and in a wide variety of places where I do not necessarily need to be. There is little logic to making the gym and the Tim Hortons in the engineering building my preferred study spots, though to be fair, a lot of people study at the gym and a lot of people drink Tim Hortons coffee. As for the people who say they always see me at certain bars, I addressed this matter in a previous post

All of this is to say that most people have reason to say they see me often, which doesn’t seem strange at all because I see them frequently as well. And this is why a particular conversation I had last week stands out to me.

I was heading home after a night of studying, when I passed a large group of guys from a fraternity on the stairs. One of them asked me if I could take a group photo for them and I obliged. After I took the photo, one of the guys said, “We were in a tutorial together in first year!” I thought for a moment and remembered who he was, and which tutorial we had had, though I’ll admit I didn’t recall who he was immediately because I’ve seen him so infrequently since then. When I told him I remembered him, he added, “I see you everywhere!” We talked a bit about what we’ve done since first year, and then we went our separate ways. I walked home and all the while thought, “Where it is that he’s seen me?” I certainly hadn’t seen him with a great deal of frequency. Thought about it the whole way home, and I never figured it out. My only hope it that next time he sees me, he says hello.
